Beyonce Becomes First Black Woman To Top Billboard Country Chart


Beyonce is the first Black woman to score a No. 1 hit on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart.  

Her new single, "Texas Hold 'Em," debuted at No. 1 this week. Before Beyonce, the highest-ranking song by a Black woman was over 50 years ago when Linda Martell peaked at No. 22 with "Color Him Father."

Beyonce's Mom Says Her Daughter Has Always Been Country

Beyonce's mom is backing up her daughter's country music cred'. Tina Knowles took to social media this week to share a series of clips and pictures of her Texas-born daughter. The video opened with the "Time Magazine" headline, "Beyonce' Has Always Been Country." 

Mama Knowles said there is a huge Black cowboy culture in their hometown of Houston, and her kids have worked it into their fashion and art since the beginning.
