(Columbus, OH) -- Governor Mike DeWine is providing more information on his support of House Bill 99.
In a letter issued to school district superintendents Friday, the governor says loosening restrictions on arming school staff is one of several state initiatives focused on increasing safety. He also made note of expanded funding for mental health programs, behavioral threat training for teachers, and recently-announced subsidies for security upgrades.
DeWine says arming school staff is optional, and that it is up to district leadership to decide how to address safety.
