Jimmy Buffett Battled Rare Form of Skin Cancer

Singer Jimmy Buffett died after a four-year battle with Merkel cell skin cancer.  

That's according to an obituary posted on his website. Dr. Vernon Sondak with Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa says the cancer is rare and is usually found in older people with a history of sun exposure or suppressed immune systems. Sondak says Merkel cell is a "sneaky" cancer that's often mistaken for a cyst or boil. 

Buffett's family has asked for donations to several hospitals and cancer centers, instead of flowers.
