Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins is dead at age 50.
The band announced his death Friday shortly before the group was set to play in Colombia. The cause of death was not disclosed. The Foo Fighters were formed in 1994 by frontman Dave Grohl, who had previously been the drummer for Nirvana.
Texas native Hawkins joined the band in 1997. In an interview for "60 Minutes" in 2014, Grohl called Hawkins "the greatest drummer in the world" when talking about his impact on their music. After fans found out why the show was cancelled, candles were placed on the venue's stage in tribute to the late drummer.
The Foo Fighters were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame late last year.
The Foo Fighters asked for fans to respect Hawkins' family and their privacy at this time.
